Same problem here Richard, with the "Celtic Tiger", the kids here don't know how lucky they are. I left college in the late 80's when there were no jobs and everybody emigrated, now we have full employment! I think the main point is Eric is a good kid, he doesn't seem to have his "head turned" by what he has.

I used to send my daughter to stay with my mom in Liverpool every year....to kind of reground her. I grew up on a rough council estate where almost everyone is on the dole or worse :( it worked though, she appreciates things in general (I think) a lot more than some of the kids she went to school with in CA.

Jakob,

My second favourite album of all time! (Guess what is number one!)
Kamakiriad and Morph The Cat do not disappoint either (thanks Rito!)

Yeah I know what you mean Froggy.
I grew up in a council house myself. I took Eric to see it in December of last year. I could see he wasn't very impressed. I wish I could have taken him inside but it was just too painful since my parents had both passed away in the last couple of years.

Sorry, everyone, I missed it.

I may or may not have dinner guests and was busy cleaning and making food. The time just flew by.

Hey ggggg - how do you manage to have dinner parties with kids? Are you superwoman in disguise?

Sorry to hear that. You know what else I did though although you have to be really careful, we would sometimes go for drives around the bad parts of LA, El Monte, Azusa etc and wed talk about the guys living on the streets, she saw some of the bad side of life before she was old enough to get on the wrong tracks. I think seeing stuff like that and talking about it afterwards kind of makes kids realize just what they have got. Helping out at places like those that give the homeless Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner had a pretty good effect, have to make sure that your open with them in how people can get like that, like sometimes its through drugs or alcohol but it seems that most people assume thats how people end up homeless....its not though, theres so many reasons and many times its not entirely their own fault.

Like I said though you do have to be careful. We never had any problems though.

It's not a dinner party - just hot dogs and burgers, salads, watermelon.

My husband (who is the culprit inviting our neighbors over) also helped with the cleaning when I went to the store.

The kicker is, I still don't kow if they are coming or not!

By the way, I only have one child (will be 2 in a month) but I will tell you now that I am expecting again. The due date is 11/12 but I think they may induce me a couple of weeks early if this one goes like my first pregnancy.
