CD BOY 2. - Liner Notes & Song Discussion

Post by [email protected] » Mon Nov 03, 2008 8:59 am

Here is a special thread for leaving liner notes or whatever you want to say, comment or discuss about the artists and songs on CD BOY 2.

Let me start it up a little with just saying that I have been listening to this second edition of CD BOY a couple of times now, and it is a great compilation of songs. It is a more diversified album and I like it even better than the first one. :D

I'm at number 7!

Edit: Hmmm... I'm having noises on song 15. It's not the usual digital drop-out style, it sounds more like a loose connection, a plug that isn't inserted properly or something. I thought it was my stereo but the noises are there on the rip I just made to MP3 as well. Anyone else experiencing this? It's coming and going more or less over the whole song.

Excellent song choices all around otherwise! Now, I'll give it another spin...

I have static noises on track as well, which happens to be mine. I checked my disc before I forwarded it and there was no noise then. I chosed to use the WMP to burn the track with, simply because I wanted to test if it was any good and beside I was the cause that CD Boy1 got so delayed, so it was just comfy for me to get it done as soon as possible. But as I said, I listened to the track before I forwarded it in the mail and there was no static when I listended to it. It's very annoying though.

I just love this compilation and can't get enough of it! I'm playing it non-stop day-in and day-out! :D

An early top favourite track of mine is The Fat Lady Sings "Show Of Myself", but there are so many, many other great songs on this cd! :D

We just have to keep this project running forever!

I just opened the disc - very, very beautifully done!!! - and just for the record: there are some static noises on song 15, especially around 01:50. I'll ask some co-workers (sound engineers), maybe they can tell me the reason for it. Anyway, the song is still beautiful!!

So much for the first technical feedback, now I hope to find the time to listen to the whole disc...

Liner Notes for Song 10
Daryl Hall (& Joni Mitchell): "Right As Rain"

This song is from Daryl Hall's solo album "3 Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine" from 1986. Some info can be found here

Right As Rain

I’ve been trying so hard to close my eyes
Dawn is rising under those cloudy skies
Days in darkness
Seemed like they’d never end
But now the rules are changing, girl
We can begin again

And we’ll be right as rain

Who’s been fooling you
They’ve been cruel to me
The kind of love we share
Is hard for those people to see
Stormy weather
Still the chill remains
What they thought was lost forever
Has been found again

And we’ll be right as rain

All those violent people
Wind up tearing our peace apart
Do their best to destroy our future
Before it has a chance to start
Never had a chance to start
The kind of love we share
It’s so hard for some to see
I know it was hard for me
It ain’t lost forever
It’s been found again
In the rain
And it feels so good to me

About song no. 13: 3 - The End Is Begun

Post by PerG » Wed Nov 05, 2008 12:04 pm

Wikipedia: 3, also known as Three, is an American Indie/progressive rock band formed in Woodstock, New York in the early 90s.

I think I first came across 3 when reading about Porcupine Tree's US Tour 2007. I recall something about Steven Wilson (from PT) saying in an interview that he wanted 3 to be their support act because he loved them and it would also keep PT "on their toes" for doing great concerts themselves. So I had to give them a listen and I liked it! Their latest cd "The End is Begun" is a clash of pure poprock (almost boy-band like at times) mixed with short bursts of really complicated progressive stuff but always accessible to listen to. Some similarities with Coheed And Cambria can be spotted here and there and that's not so strange because they've worked together in the past. Check'em out! :!:

Song 14 - Freak Kitchen - Independent Way of Life

Homepage: http://www.freakkitchen.com/index.html

I wanted something swedish, something that maybe was not all too familiar to you all, and I decided upon Freak Kitchen because I love their funny lyrics and great music. The reason that I choose Independent Way of Life was that it is on their latest release (Organic) and that the lyrics concern the music industry and also that the music is quite catchy and not too heavy.

If you like some humorous metal you can't go wrong with Freak Kitchen. Start with Move which is their best album IMO.

Quote from Wikipedia:
Freak Kitchen is a heavy metal/hard rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed in 1992. The high technical level of their compositions usually makes people refer to their style as somewhat of a progressive metal or progressive rock band.

Freak Kitchen's style of music is influenced by many genres besides the traditional heavy metal, ranging from jazz to pop. The band described their third album as "A corny little heavy-pop-rock-Latin-world-jazz-avant-garde-metal-blues-record".

Lyrics contain heavy criticism against capitalist society, conformity, racism and the attitude of huge record companies.

Frontman Mattias Eklundh is widely known as a guitarist of high technical ability, and live shows often contain parts where Eklundh plays the guitar using several foreign objects such as a vibrating dildo. Eklundh has also released three solo albums, Sensually Primitive (1997) (under the pseudonym Mr. Libido), Freak Guitar (1999) and Freak Guitar - The Road Less Traveled (2004). The band announced a new album "Land of the Freaks", which will be released in late 2008 or early 2009.[1]. They Also Co-Headlined Great Indian Rock alongside Sahg and Satyricon.

Hope you all enjoy it..

Lyrics
I’m so alternative
I am so independent
This is the way to live
The independent way of life

I’m so alternative
I am so independent
This is the way to live
The independent way of life
The independent way of life

I’m twenty-five or so
At least I was twelve years ago
Despise my existence
And my miserable gothic wife

Have no identity
Have no personality
You wouldn’t notice me
Even if I stabbed you with a knife

Now I am so depressed
And my eyes are painted black
My days are one long trauma
I’m about to crack

I am so happy…

I’m so alternative
I am so independent
This is the way to live
The independent way of life

I’m so alternative
I am so independent
This is the way to live
The independent way of life
The independent way of life

My day’s a pile of shit
I love every minute hating it
The way I dress reflects my soul
I’d never anything Nike

I hardly ever sleep
Sleep is not considered deep
I’m really difficult
Detest everything you like

Play me your favourite tune
I’ll convince the world it’s junk
But if you listen to what I listen to
I will slip into a funk

I am so special…

I got a gig today
You won’t believe the stuff we play
We just signed a major deal
Riches are heading our way

I was alternative
I was so independent
This was the way to live
The independent way of life

I was alternative
I was so independent
This was the way to live
The independent way of life
The independent way of life

Good, will be interesting to know what's wrong.

I couldn't hear anything wrong on the master disc or the extra copies I have made. But I'm half deaf, and a complete layman on sound items, so I think I'm not much of a help here. But I had all copies verified after burning and there was no indication something was wrong.
