TV Appearances

Post by -=Todd=- » Tue Oct 18, 2005 2:35 pm

I know they played on Top of The Pops, but did City Boy ever play on any other TV shows... The Old Grey Whistle Test, RockPlast, Midnight Special, or Don Kirshner's Rock Concert?

Surely there must have been more TV appearances then the two they did for TotP?

Yes....but I cant remeber which show it was  The very first time I saw them singing 5705 they were standing on like a dock by the water and Steve Broughton was wearing white jeans and a white cap sleeve t-shirt, a silver box necklace and a tan

There's a mp4 videofile of a (mimed) performance of What a Night, in front of large red "Scene 79" logo. No idea if Scene 79 was the title of a rockshow and from which country it originated (probably Germany or Austria).

I remember them singing 5705 on a shore/beach and it was on kenny Everett show. It was my first contact with CB. The year was 78/79.

As far as i know they never did the Whistle Test, they would have been ideal for that show in 75/76. Strangely too, the Radio 1 In Concert was never done either. Virtually every signed band did that !

Hi there.
I've seen them twice on tv, german television, those of you from Germany will remember the show with the more or less naked go-go-girls, first doing 5705 and later doing What a night. This must have been in '78. In late '79 I remember seing their video to The Day The Earth Caught Fire in a videoteque in Svendborg, again for those who know it, it was called Leonardo Da Vinvi or just Leonardo, but that is the last I've seen of them on the tele.

I have to bring this up again as I want to find out more about their TOTP appearances. By now it is more or less common knowledge (at least to the folks here) that CB were on TOTP with three different songs: Hap-Ki-Do Kid, 5.7.0.5 and What A Night.
However I am not sure if everyone is aware that their best known tune 5.7.0.5 appeared on three episodes in 1978, specifically on July 6, July 20 and August 3.
As far as I know artists had to perform live at the show, therefore my question is: Are there really three different TOTP performances of 5.7.0.5?

Greetings
Joerg

There is a CB clip on YouTube that I cannot watch in my country, probably due to licensing issues:

Could somebody please download this and store it in the vault? Your help would be much appreciated!
I think there also is another one which I cannot find right now.

Thanks
Joerg

When 5705 was a hit, it was not mandatory anymore for bands to play live.
So we could see Steve miming to Roy's vocals in TOTP.
There were at least two different TOTP performances :
when Max Thomas appeared in the BBC show "Never mind the buzzcocks" for the item "Identity Parade", in 2002, parts of a 5705 miming performance were shown that were very different to the well known one.

There is or should be at least one more tv appearance out there. I know CB performed on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert but I've never seen it. Don't know how I missed it. That and Midnight Special were shows I watched religiously.

Question for Chris. So how did it fly with Roy and Steve when Steve was being placed out front there and miming Roy's vocals. Ummmm, whose idea was that?

God, what he looks like a certain movie star in that video. Lol on the other hand I've always perceived as a renaissance dude for some odd reason. He would have blended in perfectly during the Tudor days.

:)) Ohhhh, noooo, beyond the hair and a superficial resembelance, nada. Anyway, Steve kept his nails much better than that. Ahhh, Steve, that was a face and big crush of mine.

I have a feeling my sister will be chiming in on this one too. And Roz, may I remind you that you shared the same crush.
