Re: City Boy questions

Sorry, there have been a few postings I haven't responded to on this thread... Robin, yes Lol did write one whole radio serial called "Dick Barton - Special Agent" for Radio 4 in the UK, a revitalization of a series which his father originated way back in the 50s/60s. I believe it was between 6 to 8...

Re: What if there was a tribute album with CB songs?

How about "Interrupted Melody" for Bruce Springsteen? Oh, Lord, giving myself away here!

Re: City Boy questions

Hi, Daisy, and thank you for your encouragement! Well, you should be proud of yourself - you revived this topic which resulted in me blathering on about some stuff I'd never written before... You also asked about memorable gigs. I can think of four off the top of my head. The most outstanding one fo...

Re: City Boy questions

Eman, let me clarify the situation regarding the proposed resurrection of City Boy so that when it happens no-one says "but it's not really City Boy because most of the band-members aren't in it," or any number of other things that people might say when they are disappointed to find it's maybe only ...

Re: City Boy questions

Hey, Eman and Hitman, welcome to the board! No, we never did visit the Philippines, and to this day, I never realized that we had any radio play or any fans there! As regards the release of any albums there, I honestly couldn't tell you, Eman. "Speechless" was never released as a single - as far as ...

Re: City Boy questions

I really don't remember how "La Guerra..." came together. It tends only to be the songs that took time to come to full fruition that I can remember how the process took place. Like "Me and my Tarot" whose melody and original lyrics were written back in 1971/72, which Lol knew about, and then in 1979...

Re: City Boy questions

It's personal... yes, another hotch-potch of an album, really. I think we all knew that this would be the last album, but as we recorded it there were definitely some bright spots, and looking back, I prefer this album to HAR. "No Ordinary Life" has a real freshness about it (Lol originally had "Tun...

Re: City Boy questions

Hi, Bruce, and welcome!
Thank you for your comments as well...

Jo, I'll reserve talking about album 8 until the time for moving forward on it comes, but I'll get on with IP soonish!

Love to you all,
Max

Re: City Boy questions

"Do the Pose"? Wow, I'd forgotten that one! As I recall, it was CB's attempt to salute the New Wave/Punk thing. (IMhO, a wonderful occurrence to rid the world of what had become Pomp Rock - along with the complacency associated with it in the music industry; on the downside, I personally found most ...

Re: City Boy questions

Geir, You took the words out of my mouth! No, not really, but thank you very much for your invaluable contribution - Piet, everything Geir has said is right. Personally I found the effect a bit too much, but, hey, you guys have expressed that you like it... I'll just shut up! (I'll let you into a li...

Re: City Boy questions

Thank you for your comments about 1 after 2, Car-eating man - I was very moved. I have been in touch with Nigel Davis but he says he is too busy right now to give any time to the Board - I'm sure he'll get round to it. I can't remember where else I've covered this but let me make it clear again... L...

Re: City Boy questions

Yes, I covered this topic on January 31st. in the "Live and Dangerous" topic on the main board. "Goodbye Laurelie"... Hmmm, good question. I can come up with answers for most questions about Lol's lyrics - some of which are too personal so don't push me! - but this one...I'd call it a pastiche of no...

Re: City Boy questions

Robin, I'm sorry - I failed to answer your questions about "Oddball Dance." Yes, Chris Dunn wrote the rag. He used to play it and we all found it very amusing, and as the song came together - I don't know whose idea it was - but it was decided, with Mutt's approval, to put it in the middle of the so...

Re: City Boy questions

I really have no idea about release dates of any of the albums - but I know a man who might know. The Nigel Davis mentioned above might well know, and I will endeavour to remember to email him and ask him. Actually, I might try and persuade him to get involved with Rito's Board as I know he has much...

Re: City Boy questions

Hi, Robin! (Funny, I was emailing my son Robin in Houston when the topic reply notification arrived!) Yeah, Sandy... a Scottish woman, as I recall. No, Nigel Davis was the fan-club man. I still see him occasionally. He lives in Devon.. While I'm here... Dinner at the Ritz...I'm sure I documented thi...
