R.I.P. Lol Mason

It seems that Lol Mason passed away this morning. After waiting three years he finally got his kidney transplant, only to have a heart attack.
Very sad news, indeed. :(

How to describe City Boy to someone who's never heard them?

I'm always at a loss when I mention City Boy to someone and they say "I've never heard them. What do they sound like?".

How would you answer that question?

Re: Goldmine Magazine reviews It's Personal!

Here's the review in it's entirety: The seventh City Boy album - not a bad achievement for a group whom most folk remember for just the first one or two - was also their last, and it's not difficult to see why. Not because they'd run out of either ideas or energy; as always with this most remarkable...

Goldmine Magazine reviews It's Personal!

American record collector's magazine, Goldmine, has a review of It's Personal in their latest issue. They gave it three-and-a-half stars. The review is not on their website yet, but it should be soon. I don't have time to type out the entire review right now, but it ends with "It's Personal mig...

Thank you, Roy! I look forward to hearing you sing and play again, whether it's with City Boy, another band or as a solo act. :D

Re: Got my It's Personal today

Got mine yesterday. I've only heard the first three songs so far. It sounds like a good needledrop to me (except for the glitch/pop between the first two songs). Max sounds pretty sure in the liner notes that there will be a reunion of some sort. Edit: I have now heard the entire CD, and I have to s...

Re: what about 2 other giants from the 70s

Personally I think that anything after 'Malice In Wonderland' was kinda downhill...though I have not heard 'The Newz' (just the fact that they spelled news with a 'z' says it all, lol) Actually, The Newz is quite good. The previous one, Boogaloo , is even better. It harkens back to their 70's sound.

Re: what about 2 other giants from the 70s

I like 'em both! The first BTO album gets listened to quite frequently in my house. Song for song, I think it's their best album. Not Fragile also has some tasty tunes on it. I saw them several times in their heyday, and they always delivered! Same goes for Nazareth. My favorites albums are Razamana...

Re: ccr and john fogerty any fans here

Being from southern Louisiana, it's impossible for me not to like CCR. How a group of guys from northern California managed to capture that swampy Louisiana sound is beyond me. I actually heard Ramble Tamble on the radio recently! What a great song! I only recently started buying Fogerty's solo albu...

Re: how far would you go ?

I have already flown from Los Angeles to London twice to see a concert(s), and I'm doing it again for Mott The Hoople in just over a month. So, I wouldn't have a problem doing it for City Boy. :D

Re: 4 incredible Steely Dan concerts coming up

I just found out that Steely Dan will play 4 shows at the Beacon Theatre in New York this summer. On four consecutive nights, they will perform a different album every night - Aja, Gaucho and The Royal Scam, plus a fourth show that will be all request. They're doing the same thing in Los Angeles at...
